Mr Alex Wong MBBS (Melb) FRACS

 

Qualifications and Experience
 

After graduating from The University of Melbourne, Mr Wong became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010.

 

He trained exclusively in colorectal surgery and is an accredited specialist of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). 

 

Mr Wong was awarded further fellowship training at the prestigious and world-renowned Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, United States of America. He gained unique expertise in advanced endoscopic procedures and became a certified da Vinci® robotic console surgeon. His special skills include experience in

 

  • robotic surgery,

  • laparoscopic (key-hole)surgery and single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS)

  • advanced endoscopic surgery procedures such as 

    • Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)

    • Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and

    • Trans-anal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMs)

  • ​sacral nerve stimulation

 

In Melbourne, he is a leading expert in the assessment of faecal incontinence and anal sphincter injuries using endoanal and endorectal ultrasound techniques. He has coordinated a Scanmedics BK 3D Endoanal Ultrasound Workshop and was a Demonstrator and Presenter at the RACOG Obstetric Anal Sphincter Repair Workshop Conference.

 

Research and Education
 

​Mr Wong has presented research papers at both national and international conferences on faecal incontinence, advanced polyp surgery and MRI imaging. He continues to conduct surgical skills courses for surgeons. His publications include a textbook chapter, anatomy manual and published abstracts. 

 

Throughout his career, he continues to fulfil several roles in clinical training committees while being a tutor and demonstrator at Melbourne and Monash Medical Schools. He is on the interview panel and coordinator for the surgical program at Eastern Health.

 

 

Personal Profile
 

With a rich south-east asian heritage, he is culturally sensitive to people from all backgrounds. He has conversational language skills in Malay, Indonesian and Chinese dialects.

My aim is to provide the highest standard of patient care and service with a personal and friendly approach.
 
I work in close liaison with the referring doctor and allied health staff through direct discussion and prompt correspondence.
